Parishioners of St. Mary's Catholic Church in downtown Northampton, across the street from College Hall and adjoining Stoddard Hall, received some disconcerting news over the weekend of Nov. 7. Effective January 2010, the Diocese of Springfield plans to shut down the 143-year-old church as part of a restructuring of the Catholic churches in the area.

This year, Smith College is ranked as one of the most expensive institutions of higher education in the country among 58 other private universities. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, Smith appears on the list of schools that have exceeded a milestone $50,000 for comprehensive tuition for the 2009-10 school year.

Two fires damaged Morgan House just before 9:30 p.m. Friday, closing the Towers quadrangle dormitory for almost three hours as investigators attempted to determine the cause of the flames.

"It's fair to say the fire is suspicious in origin," said UConn Police Major Ronald Blicher.

When Public Safety officers arrived at the scene, the end of the message had been removed, leaving only "ethnically diverse" on the wall.

The Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) has drastically changed its acceptance of part-time status for senior students who qualify. A part-time student is one defined as taking three or fewer credits per semester. In the past, seniors were easily granted status as part-time students for either their entire year or second semester if the 36-credit graduation requirement would be met without having to take a full course load.
