11/06/09 - In a town council meeting last month, University of Rhode Island Vice President of Student Affairs Tom Dougan discussed problems of off-campus student behavior.
Dougan said that according to police reports, the problems of underage drinking, loudness and large crowds are growing.

It's time to look at what's going right in this country. At this time of year, look no further than baseball's annual Fall Classic. America's team, the New York Yankees, is back in the World Series. Last year, in the depths of the Great Recession, the Yankees broke their streak of 13 straight playoff appearances finishing in third place in the AL East.

Last week, I contributed an editorial entitled "Food Service" in support of the food service workers on campus. BSC students and faculty value their work and their contributions to our community, and we will continue to lend steadfast support to the service workers' union in their pursuit of equitable wages on par with regional Sodexo operations.

Thumbs Up Halloween - It was a blustery Halloween night as ghouls and goblins haunted the land, monster-mashing everywhere. Students particularly enjoyed this past Halloween weekend, as they were able to pay homage to some of their heroes, like Max the wild thing and Billy Mays.

There are nuns everywhere in Florence: padding quietly down the street, on the bus, on bikes with their habits flying in the breeze. They may be one of my favorite aspects of my chosen Junior-Year-Abroad city.
Like most Italians, I deeply respect and admire nuns for their social work and their total dedication to something beyond themselves.

There seems to be a pattern here. Every trend starts out with something small, people take notice and blow it out of proportion, and then the trend just needs to be buried alive. The field of paranormal studies is definitely in that boat right now.
I don't want to say it started with TAPS, especially since South Park had their way with Jay and Grant recently, but somewhere along the line there spawned Ghost Hunters, Most Haunted, and Scariest Places on Earth.

Bridgewater State College does not allow postings which advocate the use of alcohol or illegal substances. This is a viewpoint biased policy, and it seems to me that it is unconstitutional for that reason. Even if it is not unconstitutional, I will argue that it should be removed.

Book and movie themed T-shirts are nothing new. Publishers and Hot Topic stores have been selling them for years. But the Twilight apparel craze has gone far beyond the occasional "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob" sweater and crossed into a full-on creepy cultural obsession.

A single word runs through my mind: Domination. This is what all of our team training has been leading up to-this final game, against Middlebury College, at the Third Annual Quidditch World Cup.
The referee shouts "Brooms up!" and bodies crunch, fighting for the quaffle.

Yet.
How did you do it, Valuable Member Of The Emerson College Community? Where have you spent all your time over your Emerson Career, if not on our dangerland of a campus?
Hmm?
Ours is the most dangerous college campus in America, according to the report published by The Daily Beast last month.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
My roommates and I just smuggled 20 biscuits from South Dining Hall. We're already scheming to top that next month.
I dropped my flashcards in the toilet cause I was studying while pooping ... I don't think I deserve to ace this test.

The Issue: Outcry after homecoming still a concern for BC
What we think: Neighbors should take school at its word
A few weeks ago, a YouTube video filmed by an angry Cleveland Circle resident caused a stir on campus after Boston College's loud homecoming dance, held outside in the Mod lot from 9:30 p.

In the last two issues of the Tripod, there have been articles dealing with a recent incident at Cleo - a party with a questionable title - and their message seems to be pretty straightforward. Both articles voice a disapproval of the Greek system here at Trinity College, accusing it of fostering an environment where sexism, classism, and racism can flourish.

Boo.
I can't believe three ninja turtles ran through the library Wednesday night and nobody wrote to the InstantDaily about it.
If it wasn't for the T.V. in Putnam Dining Hall, I would have no friends to eat with.
I'm going to be the InstantDaily for Halloween and see how many people try to get in me.

11/03/09 - Dear Sex & the Cigar,
I met a girl a few months ago whose interests and personality make her simply perfect. But, as can be expected in such cases, she already has a boyfriend. Unfortunately for me, he is a really nice guy. Usually I wouldn't give any thought to pursuing someone already in a relationship, but I've been getting signals from her that she likes me.

Smith seems to be a place full of health contradictions. Students who use the stair-stepper daily at the gym also take the elevator to their class on the third floor of Seelye. Students don't use antiperspirant because it's carcinogenic, but still manage to justify their twice-daily cigarettes.

10/30/09 - Tonight is the infamous mischief night, when teenagers run tree and college students gather to party.
Mischief night was first brought into the youth of America's vocabulary after we watched four friends from Nickelodeon's Rocket Power tear up their town the night before All Hallows Eve.
