The Daily Campus

Commentary

To avoid scribbling about the same old subjects this week (one can only take so much of Iraq, Schwarzenegger and Rush Limbaugh's reform from drug addiction before losing one's lunch) and due to my growing excitement about returning home for the holidays and escaping the monotonous Storrs atmosphere for a while, I proudly present why good ol' Dirty Jersey isn't as bad as you New England folk want it to be.

All the time I have been in school, I thought the university was the apex of the education system; that the university aspired to the highest values of civilization. The university is supposed to be a place for open discussion and debate, where a student is free to express him or herself.

This week the UConn chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) will be holding a "day of action" regarding gay rights. This past June the Supreme Court overruled a Texas law that made gay sex illegal, ruling that this was a violation of peoples' constitutional right to privacy.

America is called a "melting pot" because we are a society where the majority of our citizens originally immigrated from somewhere else. While the majority of students who attend The University of Connecticut are white, there are still many people who are proud of their foreign heritages.

Hats off to Randy Edsall and the fabulous job done by the entire men's football program this year. After crushing injuries to their tight end, and then to the leading ground gainer, Cauley, UConn sucked it up and finished 9-3. I would like to propose a new Bowl Game soon: The New England Patriot Bowl.
