Over the past three years, I, like any other self-respecting UConn undergrad, have grown to hate the West Virginia Mountaineers. Whether it was the 66-21 drubbing the UConn football team received in Morgantown the year they were crowned Co-Big East champions or Joe Alexander and the Mountaineers knocking the Huskies out in the 2008 Big East basketball tournament, I developed a deep and undying hatred for everything West Virginian. The women's soccer team didn't finish the regular season the way they had hoped. In the final weekend of regular season play before the Big East tournament, the Huskies were unable to score a single goal, only mustering a 0-0 tie against West Virginia Friday night before losing 1-0 in overtime to Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon. The UConn women's soccer team went into this past weekend with a chance to make sure their seniors would have another opportunity to step foot on Morrone Stadium's field. After a winless weekend, that chance is now more distant than ever. The Huskies tied West Virginia 0-0 on Friday night, and lost 1-0 in overtime on Sunday to the Pittsburgh Panthers in their final regular season home games. (0) comments
The UConn women's hockey team (4-3-1) did some cleaning this Friday and Saturday, sweeping non-conference opponents Brown and Union under the rug by a combined score of 12-2. After blasting Brown in an 8-1 road victory Friday night, the Huskies returned home to stave off the pesky Union Dutchmen in a 4-1 win. (0) comments
For the second straight weekend, the Huskies came home empty-handed. The UConn men's hockey team dropped two games this weekend, a 4-3 loss against the Bentley Falcons on Friday night, and a 4-1 loss to Merrimack on Sunday. The loss to Bentley gives UConn a 0-1 record in Atlantic Hockey and an 0-4 record overall. (0) comments
No. 7 UConn improved their record to 16-2 after a shutout against Rutgers in Piscataway, NJ. The Huskies also improved their Big East conference record to 4-1, but the win was still not enough to put them atop Syracuse in Big East standings. Loren Sherer scored her 25th and 26th goals of the season during the game. (0) comments
It was a freshmen affair as the UConn men's cross country team took action in the CCSU Mini Meet. UConn took sixth place with a total of 180 points. The meet consisted of 11 teams and 104 runners total. The host team CCSU finished in second place with a total of 71 points to PC with 33 points, while Quinnipiac took third with 81 points. Game of the weekend: Men's Soccer at Seton Hall (Sun.) UConn improved to 10-2-3 (7-1-1 Big East) after a Sunday afternoon win in New Jersey. Sophomore Tony Cascio netted two goals, both in the second half, to lead the Huskies to victory over the Seton Hall Pirates. (0) comments
Game of the weekend: New Orleans Saints' 46-34 win over the Miami Dolphins (Sun.) Drew Brees turned the ball over four times. Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown combined for four rushing touchdowns. The Saints even trailed by three touchdowns at one point. (0) comments
