UConn hopes to solidify top spot

The Huskies are currently sharing first place with Rutgers as each team enters the weekend with a 12-2 conference mark.
UConn will travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Saturday to face the Eagles in hopes of solidifying their stake to the top spot. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The two teams met earlier in the season at Gampel Pavilion, where the Huskies dominated as they won 80-55. Boston College is currently fourth in the Big East and enters with an overall record of 17-8 and 8-6 league record.
The Huskies are coming off an easy win against Pittsburgh Tuesday night. Ashley Battle was the star of the game with a career-high 23 points as she toped the 1,000 career point plateau and became the 27th Husky in school history to reach the milestone.
Other top performers Tuesday were Mel Thomas who notched 11 points and Charde Houston who added 10. In the game, UConn had only three turnovers, a school record. On the defensive side, they were able to make Pittsburgh turn the ball over 22 times and had 16 steals. UConn scored 34 points on those turnovers.
Boston College is looking for redemption after their recent 54-36 loss against No. 9 Rutgers. Rutgers controlled the game, including keeping the Eagles at a record low 15 points at the end of the first half. Shamika Jackson led the scoring for the Eagles with eight points. That game marked a season low in points for Boston College.
Big wins this season for BC have come against West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Boston College is trying find a rhythm after losing their leading scorer Jessalyn Deveny. Deveny is out the rest of the season with an injured right Achilles tendon. The Eagles are 2-4 since Deveny was injured.
Last time the two teams met was on Feb. 9. The Huskies took control early with a 32-6 lead 10 minutes into the game. Battle had 10 points and four steals during the run. Houston also added 10 points for the Huskies during the game. Kindyll Dorsey had 11 points to lead BC in scoring. The Huskies took advantage of the struggling Eagles and forced 16 turnovers.
After Saturday's matchup, The No. 11 Huskies will travel to West Virginia on March 1 for their last regular season game.
