Valerie Calderon
Issue date: 11/16/06 Section: Focus
Not only will all proceeds from Hillel Yeah!, a concert that benefits the victims of the genocide in Darfur, but the it will also showcase several local UConn bands.
The show will start tonight at 6:30 p.m at Hillel, the Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, located at 54 N. Eagleville Road. The cover is $3 and all proceeds go to the Connecticut Coalition to Save Darfur. The concert is also part of UConn's Month of Kindness.
The Coalition to Save Darfur is working with the Save Darfur Coalition. According to the group's website jfact.org the group's goal is to urge the U.S government to take action, and to help put an end to the genocide that has killed over 400,000 people and displaced 2.5 million.
Bands playing at the concert include The Athens Stance, Raging Bonheures, Shady Lane, Eliza, The Dharma Lions, Nap Lajoy, The Teen Beats and Dan Fortin.
Steven Thai, 3rd semester pharmacy major, and the keyboard player in Raging Bonheures, said students should come to the concert because, "Nine of UConn's best bands will be there and they will be supporting Darfur with money given to the show."
After browsing through the bands Myspace pages, it appears there will be a wide range of genres at the concert, from rock to alternative, from folk to blues and from emo to experimental. Many music tastes will definitely be satisfied.
Thai noted students should expect a crazy show and it will be a "spine tingling sensation to see UConn's frequencies erupt."
Hillel Yeah! will let students see what kind of bands UConn has to offer and will also be supporting a good cause.
