There's no use in denying it; your cheeks are burning and your ears are icicles. The frosty temperatures outside mean one thing - shelter is a must. Here are some great spots on-campus to seek refuge, a good meal or some quiet time in midst of the winter weather.

Lu's Café

Located on the lower level of the Family Studies building, Lu's Café is a commonly - overlooked spot amongst members of the UConn community. Part of UConn's Uniquely Caffeinated Cafés, Lu's is open from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and is a great place to duck out of the cold during that common 40-minute break between classes. Lu's will be the hotspot for a jazz performance Thursday featuring the jazz students from the music department. Admission is $3 for students and $5 for non-students and includes one free drink.

The Business Café

Located in the lower level of the business building, the business café is not for business majors alone. The small room is surrounded by flags from hundreds of countries and provides a snug atmosphere to take a break, study for an upcoming exam or eat lunch with a friend. However, don't be fooled by the name - the business "café" does not serve food or drink.

The Quiet Section

On any given day of the week, the Home Babbidge Library is always brimming with studying students. However, this section of the library, located on the plaza level, is commonly overlooked and is not only tranquil but accommodating. This quiet section has Internet connections in every lamp and additionally on every table. Acting as a refuge for dozens of students trying to get some peace and quiet, this study area is a change in scenery. Instead of gazing at the three panes of a study divider, students can look out upon the center of the UConn campus.

The New Café Co-op

The Café Co-op is UConn's newest café on-campus. Located in the main entrance, Café Co-op offers a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, specialty coffees, drinks and sweet treats such as s'mores and peanut butter bars. Contrary to the old Java Joint, the new café accepts both points and Huskybucks. Its central location is both clutch and necessary, providing one-stop shopping. Now students can come buy books, apparel, visit the bank and grab a meal all in the same place using one card.

The SRF

Now that the beginning-of-semester rush has died down slightly, the gym is back to being a place to blow off some steam while getting out of the cold and working up a sweat. As proved by the increase in traffic after 4 p.m., students go to the gym to work off the stress of a long day of classes. Not only does this warm up the muscles and joints, it improves your health in the process. The Student Recreation Facility offers dozens of different machines and free weights, making any workout routine customable.

Towers Grab-n-Go

After the long walk back to the dorm from class, many Towers residents look for warmth and serenity in the towers Grab and Go area. Surrounded by dozens of couches and armchairs, the Grab and Go supplies a cozy atmosphere, complete with local access to UConn wireless Internet. The convenient location allows students to grab a snack or drink while studying, waiting for a bus or just hanging out with friends.
