New ABC Series 'October Road' No Replacement For 'Grey's Anatomy''
Anna Blaise
Issue date: 3/16/07 Section: Focus
ABC's TV shows never fail to amaze its audience. Every month, a new hit drama premieres hoping to have as much success as "Grey's Anatomy." This Thursday, "October Road" tried its hand at becoming the new and famous show by having its main character disappear from his town and returning 10 years later, only to find that everything he knew has changed.
Nick, played by Bryan Greenberg, left his hometown to go find himself. He was supposed to be gone for six weeks promising to come back to his friends and his girlfriend Anna (Laura Prepon, "That 70's Show"). Nick decided to stay away and never return. In the meantime, Nick writes a novel where he depicts his hometown and his friends. Ten years later, Nick returns home to find that everything has changed on October Road. His best friend Eddie (Geoff Stults) hates him, his ex-girlfriend Anna is dating the town's prick and she has a 10-year-old son.
Nick's return was because of a one-day job offered by his hometown liberal arts college, where he was to teach the students about his famous novel. When Nick returned to town, he went back to his father's house only to be greeted by his father in a state of shock, since the his father did not know he was coming. It seems as if no one knew Nick was back, since everyone was shocked to see him. Anna's face became red as an apple. Of course, she was infuriated, but told Nick that it was okay.
The drama did not stop there. On the day that Nick was supposed to teach that college course, he had a case of stage fright and ran off stage. When he came back, everyone was gone except for one girl, who could possibly be Nick's new love interest. Needless to say, the drama continued when Nick went to a bar and saw his old friends, who accepted him and laughed with him except for his old best friend Eddie. Eddie, drunk, tried to pick a fight with one of Nick's new friend. Nick tried to break it off only to have Eddie yell at him "to go back where he came from." At the end of the night, Nick drove home Eddie, who admitted missing Nick but also that he could never be his friend again.
With every new drama, there is a new twist. Anna's son is revealed at the end to be Nick's son as well, after Anna denied it. Nick who was scheduled to leave town on Sunday decided to stay around because "things have just left the diaper," as he himself said.
Greenberg could become a star in the same light of McDreamy of "Grey's," but "October Road" will not become a new "Grey's Anatomy." The show has potential, but the first episode wasn't anything special. Maybe it will become great and famous down the road, but as of now, "October Road," is just the new TV premiere from ABC.

I agree with some of what you're saying here, but if I were you, I'd get the main character's name right. Hannah, not Anna. Anna was the character in the book. (Continued…)

Grey's Anatomy successful? That show is complete garbage. Next time you decide to write an article about a show you don't like, why don't you try watching it first. (Continued…)
