'What Not To Wear,' UConn Style

Issue date: 4/5/07 Section: Focus
Clueless about what to wear to that upcoming job interview? Knowing not to wear sweatpants and Uggs is a good first step, but it takes much more than jeans and a fitted shirt to look professional.
The Connecticut chapter of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists is hosting it's second annual "What Not to Wear" event at 6 p.m. at the Pharmacy building, in room 131.
Nordstrom's, who is sponsoring the event, will showcase an array of professional clothing that is appropriate for students to wear on job interviews and experiential rotation sites. Representatives will put together various outfits that are appropriate but still suit different individuals' styles.
Nordstrom's will be handing out free samples of garment bags, makeup and cologne for everyone who attends the event. Everyone who attends will also automatically be entered in a raffle for $200 worth of Nordstrom's gift cards.
After the showcase, some of the Pharmacy School faculty will dress up in outfits to exemplify what not to wear in the professional world. This comedic presentation will be followed by a vote from students, who will determine which faculty member was dressed the worst.
Renee LaRouche, an 8th- semester pharmacy major, said the event should be both educational and entertaining.
"The main goal of this event is to educate students about appropriate attire, since a lot of students don't have any idea what to wear," LaRouche said. "All students, not just pharmacy majors, are encouraged to come. Nordstrom's has been generous enough to sponsor us this year, and I hope that it can continue in years to come."
The cost for this event is $5 for students with an ID, with pizza served on a first-come-first- served basis.
