The staff of The Daily Campus will be spotlighting one individual each week whose performance stands out amongst all others. This week, we have chosen to honor Akeem Priestley, who scored the winning goal with nine seconds left in the Huskies' 1-0 win over Florida International Saturday.
Name: Akeem Priestley
Sport: Men's Soccer
Year: Junior
Height: 5-11
Weight: 165
Hometown: Kingston, Jamaica
How much do you think your teammates had to do with your game winning goal?
"They help a lot. I was thinking I couldn't beat 3 or 4 [defenders] so they helped get it back in to me."
Even though it's early, how has the team been playing together so far?
"It's good, everybody is working for each other. Players are confident in themselves and in each other. If it continues you can look forward to good things in the future."
How much of an effect does the crowd have on the game when playing at home?
"Oh man, the Goal Patrol makes such a big difference. Some of the time the game gets tough. Even in the last game and when things weren't going so well and the game was almost over, they continue to cheer."
What needs to be done to make this team a serious contender?
"So far, the team has been good, but as it is with everything in life it can always improve. We can't get complacent. I think we're ranked No. 2 in nation. We can't let that get to us and get complacent and let things start falling apart."
The Weekly Honor Roll:
Erin Clark, women's soccer: Scored the winning goal to lead the 17th-ranked Huskies over CCSU
Kate Seabaugh, volleyball: Recorded her first double-double of the season as she recorded 22 kills and 13 digs to beat Missouri State 3-1
Terence Jeffers, football: Scored 2 TD's in Saturday's shut out of Maine.
Lizzy Peijs, field hockey: Scored 2 goals to lead the No. 3 Huskies over No. 9 Old Dominion 3-2
