Car accidents and birthdays happen everyday, but if you're a celebrity, they become headline news. Stars and cars have been a topic of conversation over the past week and although some stories were able to evoke emotion, some left people asking what the importance was. However, if it's juicy, I'm bringing it to you, so here are some of the top Hollywood news stories of the past week.
Aging heartthrob George Clooney and girlfriend Sarah Larson were in a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon and both were treated for injuries and released from the Palisades Medical Center after the motorcycle they were riding was struck by a car, People Online reported. Clooney, 46, suffered a hairline fracture of a rib and road rash and Larson, 28, suffered a broken foot, Clooney's rep told People. Both were wearing helmets.
He was driving his Harley-Davidson north on a New Jersey road when he collided with a 1999 Mazda Millenia. He was passing the vehicle on the right when it attempted to make a right hand turn off the two-lane road, People.com reported.
Larson, whose injuries appeared more severe at the sight of the crash, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with Clooney close by her side.
The 27-year-old driver of the Mazda was uninjured. The accident is still under investigation.
Clooney was in the area filming his new movie and has been spotted around with his new girlfriend several times. He and Larson met at the Palms Casino and Resort during the "Ocean's Thirteen" premiere, where she works as a cocktail waitress.
Maybe October will bring some fresh celebrity gossip, but for now we're stuck with the turmoil of Britney Spears. September has proven to be quite an interesting month for the singer, and now she can add possible jail time to her list of to-dos, right under "redo comeback."
Spears has been charged with a hit-and-run, causing property damage and driving without a license, the Los Angeles city attorney said.
The charges come after she made a wide right turn into a parking space and scraped another car's bumper in a store's parking lot on Aug. 6. Many people may have seen the accident on television or the internet, as it was captured on video by a celebrity photo agency. Spears' arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 10 and, if convicted on both charges, she faces up to a year in jail, Los Angeles city attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan told People.
Spears was never issued a California license, according to the DMV and she was pulled over several times in recent years and cited for license violation. It looks like Spears is once again trying to fill the size 10 shoes of her old friend Paris Hilton, who served a short sentence this summer.
My birthday is in less than a week and, like most people turning 21, all I am expecting is a card with $20 in it from my grandma and a few drinks at the bar. Hilary Duff's expectations may have been a little higher for her 20th birthday, but she did not expect a Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV with a retail price of more than $100,000.
The car was a present from new boyfriend Mike Comrie, who plays hockey for the New York Islanders. He surprised her a week early by parking it in her sister's garage with a giant red bow. Duff and Comrie have been dating since late October. Oh, to be young and filthy rich.
