I was in synagogue this past weekend, atoning for my sins of the past year as part of the Jewish high holiday of Yom Kippur. In my forgiving mood, I forgave family, friends and acquaintances that I may have wronged. I don't know if it was the hunger pangs I was experiencing due to my day-long fast as part of this important religious ritual, but I found myself unable to forgive one particular group of people that have been thorns in my side for far too long: Jets fans.

Yes, even on the Day of Atonement I could not find it in my football-loving heart to forgive these dreadful creatures - which include friends, co-workers and even an ex-girlfriend - for all the mindless yammering they have spewed my way. I mean, where do Jets fans get the brazen audacity to even open their mouths in a football conversation? I looked back into the history and nature of this team and confirmed my deepest hatreds.

First of all, the Yankees are the only New York team that deserve as much passion and respect from their fans that the Jets give their team. Period. I am a Red Sox fan and even I am willing to admit that the Yankees give their fans a lot to cheer for.

Secondly, New York is not a football city. It is a baseball city. I respect fans of real football cities like Pittsburgh, Dallas and Green Bay, but yet the fans of the New York teams always seem to be the most vocal and annoying. I guess it is the number of championships a team has accumulated that also has an upward effect on the fans' humility.

As far as the history of the Jets is concerned, I don't understand how a person can honestly call themselves a Jets fan while keeping a straight face. The history of this team is so deplorable, so void of anything positive that it is amazing how any non-baby boomer can justify their desire as a fan.

The Jets have two AFC East titles - 1998 and 2002 - only one league championship and one Super Bowl win. That Super Bowl - Super Bowl III against Baltimore - featured quarterback Joe Namath's famous guarantee of a win over the heavily favored Colts, amounting to what some consider as one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history.

Haha...this is funny, I think even a Jets fan could laugh at this. A few problems, though. The Patriots' mascot is also a human....Pat the Patriot. And the Pats have people dressed up as patriots like Sam Adams, etc. (Continued…)
