Comedians do not have to be outrageous in their deliveries and profane in their language or content to induce whole-hearted laughs and entertain a mass audience. Some can just be quirky, smart, multi-talented and quick on their feet, like stand up comedian Demetri Martin. His comedic style, though minimalist and peculiar with jokes about everyday occurrences such as, "I like digital cameras because they allow you to reminisce immediately" or out-of-the-blue jokes like, "Every fight is a food fight … when you're a cannibal," still makes audiences chuckle and cheer with laughter and approval.

Tonight, audiences at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts will laugh and cheer. Martin performs at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. Ticket prices at $5 for students and $15 for non-students and can be purchased from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to the event.

The New York-based Martin did not always know that comedy was his calling in life. A graduate of Yale University, he also attended New York University School of Law with a full scholarship. However, he dropped out a year before graduation to pursue comedy, to the dismay of his Greek family, because he thought that it was "boring."

But due to his talent as a writer and musician to aid his penchant for comedy, Martin has risen to great comedic fame since his first major appearance on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend" in 2001. He has had two Comedy Central specials: "Comedy Central Presents: Demetri Martin" and "Demetri Martin: Person." He has appeared as the resident "trendspotter" correspondent on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and was even nominated for an Emmy for his writing on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." Comedy Central has even given Martin a chance to star in his own show: "Things Important with Demetri Martin." Set to premiere in late 2008, it will feature a variety of comedic mediums such as stand up and taped skits to discuss varied topics such as "What Happens After We Die" and "Apples."
