Looking Hot In The Cold Winter

It's hard to think of fashion while the temperatures are continually dropping in Storrs during the recent weeks. However, just because it's colder doesn't mean that all fashion has to get thrown out of the window. From sweaters to leggings and scarves to coats, here are some fashion tips to keep your winter style as hot as the summer sun.
Layers
The key to staying warm and fashionable lies within the layers. Wearing a jacket when traveling from class to class is necessary in the cold, however once inside, the 40 degree increase doesn't often facilitate a parka. Make sure to wear a lighter sweater paired with the jacket and even a T-shirt under the sweater to ease different indoor conditions.
"I generally wear a sweatshirt with a Northface to a lot of my classes," said Christina Sakelarakis, a 3rd-semester human development and family studies and psychology double major. "That way I'm comfortable when I get inside and I'm not freezing on my way."
Additionally, try wearing less layers, but of warmer fabrics. Opt for a cashmere or wool instead of multiple layers of cotton.
Clothes That Are Warm Can Also Be Flattering
Resist the temptation to pile on a variety of fashionable thicker pieces. If you want to wear a bulky sweater, pair it with leggings or skinny jeans, rather than sweats or wide leg trousers. Wear a cropped jacket with wide leg pants to balance out the wider leg with a slimmer torso, and you're in business.
Don't forget that the secret to what many outfits are lacking is within the accessory. Do not be afraid to layer on the jewels, with warm gems and glowing golds lining the shelves at many stores this season. On a tight budget? Try accessory hunting at lower budget stores such as Wal-Mart or Target, or even go for a more vintage look with accessories from the Salvation Army.
The Greatest
Cold Accessory, The Scarf
The scarf is an accessory that is no longer just for winter. However, with the cold weather rolling in, so is the frequency of this accessory and in many shapes and styles. The Pashmina, a classic favorite (ranging from $200 for the original Italian style to $10 for an H&M rendition), is a trend and a scarf that is here to stay. Not only is this scarf light-weight and fashionable, but it also comes in almost every color and pattern imaginable and can spice up any outfit.
