UConn student Keith Steamer pled guilty to second-degree unlawful restraint and third-degree assault Friday in Rockville Superior Court, according to the Hartford Courant.

Steamer, 19, faces 18 months in prison with five years of probation, according to the Courant. Steamer is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 11.

The initial charges stem from a Jan. 19 sexual assault of a female acquaintance in Steamer's dorm room in Buckley Hall South. The woman had began to have consensual sex with Steamer, but told him to stop after he got rough and started slapping and biting her. The victim was later treated at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, where she reported that she had been sexually assaulted, according to court documents.

A community assistant heard the victim asking Steamer "Why are you doing this?" and "stop," according to the affidavit.

The victim later went to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London where she reported that she had been sexually assaulted, according to court documents. The incident was then reported to the East Lyme Police Department, which in turn, reported the incident to the UConn Police.

After an investigation, police submitted an arrest warrant March 23. Steamer turned himself into UConn Police April 7.

Steamer was arraigned in Rockville Superior Court April 9, where the judge issued a protective order forbidding him from contacting the victim or going within 100 yards of her.

However, recent developments and testimony from the victim's friends have found that Steamer had been frequently seeing the victim and continuing to have sexual relations with her, according to court documents.

Friday he pled guilty to violating this order. According to court documents, the victim's friends told police Steamer had been frequently seeing the victim and having sexual relations with her.

Steamer is still a university student, university spokesperson Karen Grava said Sunday. She could not comment on Steamer's case but said that the university does not take action on criminal conduct unless there is enough court information.
