Being a part of an organization is important on many levels. It acts as a stress reliever, provides a dynamic social situation and connects people of similar or opposing interests. Being around others in a semi-casual social setting often helps form individuals identities, by forcing people to realize their beliefs and ideals. Clubs and organizations also provide leadership opportunities in a different way than jobs or the academic realm do.
While reflecting on their UConn years, graduating seniors usually share memories and experiences that stemmed from their extracurricular involvement, before citing anything academic, like class discussions and lectures. Make the most out of the money paid to attend the university.
Take advantage of the opportunities it provides - volunteer, social or otherwise. If UConn doesn't offer a club, students can apply to start a new club or organization through the Department of Student Activities, and then apply to get funding through USG.
