Almost more important than the game itself, food has become one of the centerpieces of Super Bowl Sunday. According to The American Institute of Food Distribution, the Super Bowl is the second-largest food-consumption event, trailing only Thanksgiving.

According to About.com, the Domino's Pizza chain expects a 30% increase in sales as compared to a typical Sunday (approximately 1.2 million pizza's nation-wide), and Papa John's a 50 percent increase.

About.com also reported an expected 15 percent increase in the sale of processed cheese products such as Cheez Whiz. Frito-Lay, has increased its potato and tortilla chip production by more than 10 million pounds according to BusinessWeek.

Here at UConn it is no different. According to Adam Fletcher, regional manager of Wings Over Storrs, the wings eatery received 173 preorders as of Sunday morning for wings and expected more to come in. Wings Express, another local wings establishment received about 175 orders, for 320 pounds of regular wings and 300 pounds of boneless wings.

Less damaging to the poultry population, the Domino's Pizza chain in Storrs had received about 263 orders as of about 11 p.m., totaling 349 pizzas as compared to their typical 110-120 Sunday sales. They also sold 332 cheese breads, well above their typical 60. Sgt. Pep's took about 639 orders as of 11 p.m. According to Rebecca Luber a manager at Sgt. Pep's, "On a typical Sunday we take about half that, maybe even a quarter of that."

Husky Pizza took 266 orders today translating to 210 pizzas as compared to their typical 60-70 Sunday orders.

The Monday after the big game leaves many feeling, well, full. This bloated Monday secures a 20 percent increase in antacid sales as reported by 7-11. According to the Washington Times, approximately 1.5 million employees call in sick this day.
