Huskies Overcome Sluggish First Half
Men's Basketball

After playing such a close game in Tampa, Fla. on Saturday against a weak South Florida team, perhaps some were expecting the men's basketball team to come out and put their foot down in Tuesday's game against DePaul - including the team.
That didn't happen though, as the Huskies played a sluggish first half and went into halftime up just one point. The team certainly didn't expect such a lethargic effort as they came into this game with a great practice on Monday under their belts.
"I don't know why it happened," Calhoun said about the team's flat first half. "I would say that we had 72, 73 practices, something like that and yesterday's was our best.
"We had more energy yesterday - I couldn't believe the energy. And I was worried about the Florida thing coming back, [but] we were great yesterday."
"We had a great day of practice yesterday," Price said. "So I know that's not the issue, as far as getting up for games because we were ready to play. We just weren't executing in the first half."
The Quotable Calhoun
"I can't explain actually the first half. I thought we were logi [lethargic] the whole first half, the building was logi, we were logi. … In fairness to everybody, we make the building logi. I wasn't really that interested in watching us play so I can't blame them." - Jim Calhoun's reaction to his team's play in the first half of Tuesday's game.
Quick Hits
Former UConn associate head coach Tom Moore, now Quinnipiac's head coach was in attendance for Tuesday's game … Jeff Adrien scored 12 points, which puts him two points shy of being the 40th member of UConn's 1,000-point club … The Blue Demons beat the Huskies on second-chance points by a wide margin of 21-7 … The five-point win became UConn's sixth win in this 10-game winning streak by single digits.
Up Next
The Huskies look to extend their now 10-game winning streak as they head to Philadelphia to take on Villanova (15-9, 5-7) Saturday at the Wachovia Center (noon, ESPN).
In last season's meting, Scottie Reynolds turned Gampel Pavillion into his personal playground, scoring 40 points and leading the Wildcats to a 78-74 victory Feb. 28, 2007.
But the two teams stroll into this weekend's match-up with their roles reversed. After being ranked at the start of conference play, Villanova has struggled since while UConn emerged as one of the hottest teams in the country.
