Maya Moore has established herself as one of the nation's best players.

UConn freshman Maya Moore swept the Big East's weekly awards, the conference announced Tuesday, becoming the first freshman to ever be named Big East Player of the Week.

She also became the first UConn player to be named Big East Player of the Week this season.

Moore scored 29, 16 and 19 points in No. 1 UConn's wins over LSU, DePaul and Rutgers, respectively.

The freshman from Lawrenceville, Ga., was also named Big East Freshman of the Week for a record 10th time out of 16 weeks, including seven of the last eight.

Moore may be in line for more honors Friday night in Hartford, when the Big East holds its annual awards banquet.

Following UConn's 66-46 win over No. 4 Rutgers Monday, head coach Geno Auriemma said he would be disappointed if Moore was not named Big East Player of the Year.

"My emotion would be ... that she's being punished for being a freshman," Auriemma said.

"My feeling is that the best player on the best team - if they deserve it - should win Player of the Year."
