The staff of The Daily Campus will be spotlighting one individual each week whose performance stands out amongst all others. This week, we have chosen to honor baseball's Peter Fatse, who hit a grand slam in UConn's 12-11 loss against West Virginia on Saturday.

Name: Peter Fatse

Sport: Baseball

Year: Sophomore

Height: 5-foot-10

Weight: 170 pounds

Hometown: Hampden, Mass.

Major: Political Science

What was going through your mind when you hit that grand slam on Saturday against West Virginia?

I was kind of swept up in the moment so it didn't really hit me until I was rounding third base. It was definitely exciting. Coach always tells us how each season has defining moments and I was kind of hoping that would be one of them and we could pull out the win. But unfortunately things happen sometimes.

How long have you been playing baseball and when did you first get started?

I didn't start playing until I was eight years old because I was playing spring soccer at the time so my dad wouldn't let me play. I basically had to show him that I wanted it more and I felt like baseball was something that I got the most enjoyment out of.

What do you attribute to your success at the plate?

A lot of it comes from the confidence that my coaches and teammates have in me when I'm out there.

What's your favorite part about playing baseball?

I love hitting, but more so I love just being around the guys and the camaraderie aspect of it. We've gotten really close as a team, so it's a lot of fun going out there with those guys.

When you're not playing baseball, what do you like to do?

I like to hang out with my friends, watch Sportscenter. That's always good. Playing Madden is also fun too. That never gets old.

Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

I tape my socks up a certain way on my legs and I tape my wrists too before the game. Taping my wrists is pretty much the last thing I do before heading out onto the field so that's when I know I'm ready to go out there.

What does team have to do to rebound and get a chance at postseason play?

Obviously winning helps, but we've just got to follow along with what coach has told us all season and that's to keep believing in what we've always done. We've just got to trust the system that's brought us here and stay with our approach at the plate and in the field and hopefully turn things around.
