Few surprises were in store Tuesday as the Big East revealed its intra-conference match-ups for the 2008-2009 season.
For the sixth consecutive year, UConn will face nemesis Rutgers twice next year.
The Huskies and Scarlet Knights split their regular-season meetings in 2008, with UConn taking the rubber match in the Greensboro Regional final in the NCAA tournament.
UConn will play each of the remaining 14 Big East teams once. UConn's 2008-2009 Big East home schedule include Rutgers, DePaul, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Syracuse and Villanova. The Huskies will travel to Rutgers, Cincinnati, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, South Florida and West Virginia.
Dates and times for all Big East games will be finalized in the coming months.
The Huskies - who gain high school player of the year Elena Delle Donne of Ursuline (Del.) Academy - finished last season with a record of 36-2 and made their first Final Four appearance since 2004.
UConn's 16 Big East match-ups will complement a non-conference schedule that features games against at least three highly ranked opponents.
The Huskies have deals in place to play NCAA tournament teams LSU and Oklahoma (at home), while they will travel to take on Elite Eight participant North Carolina.
The team will also spend the week before Christmas in Cancun, Mexico, when they take part in the Caribbean Classic with Florida State, Washington and a fourth team to be announced.
In addition, the Huskies will play in at least one game at Madison Square Garden next season, as they play Penn State Dec. 14 in New York as part of the Maggie Dixon Classic.
The Huskies could also potentially play St. John's in a regular-season game at the World's Most Famous Arena, as they did in 2007, but no announcement to that effect has been made yet.
