SUBOG's only "Drive-In Movie" of the semester was a bit of a failure Sunday night when many frustrated attendees left early for numerous reasons.

It would have been a chilly but lovely evening to snuggle up and watch 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' on Dow Field, but technical difficulties ended up causing almost the entire audience to stampede toward the Student Union and find other plans.

The movie was supposed to start at 8 p.m. but was delayed at least 15 minutes because of set-up and sound problems - the big downfall of the experience. The screen wasn't stretched tight enough so the picture was very deformed, creating the first annoyance.

"There were actually a ton of people there and we could have dealt with the deformed picture, but the sound wasn't working at all, and then after they finally fixed it, it was blasting and by then I was ready to just leave and go party," said Katie Heibeck, a 5th-semester nutrition major.

Dow Field was scattered with blankets and some people used the outdoor activity as an opportunity to keep the party going, regardless of SUBOG's intended sober entertainment.

"Yeah, a lot of people were drinking and the kids in front of us were smoking a joint; it would have been fun if it was working," said Elyse Czarnecki, 5th-semester nursing major. "I really wanted to see that movie so I'm bummed it didn't work."

If the set-up of the movie had started earlier, the sound check could have detected the bugs and fixed them before 75 percent of the audience gave up on the pastime. Although some people did stick it out and stayed to enjoy the movie, SUBOG's second attempt at the "Drive-In Movie" didn't work.

SUBOG always finds a way to screw up good ideas. They are constantly disorganized and unprepared. This is a prime example of that!

They could learn a lot about how to throw an event and entertain from UCTV and WHUS. (Continued…)
