Unlike last year's controversial five-point win over the Owls, UConn trailed the entire way in a driving rainstorm.
But a fourth-quarter comeback and Donald Brown's 7-yard overtime touchdown run gave the Huskies (2-0) a 12-9 win over the Owls (1-1) at Lincoln Financial Field.
On a day marred by heavy rain from Tropical Storm Hanna, UConn rode Brown (36 carries, 214 yards) to a 2-0 start for the second straight season.
Last season, the Huskies had to withstand a late Temple rally to survive in East Hartford.
Saturday, UConn created its own hole. Tyler Lorenzen was just 10-for-22 for 86 yards with an interception and a fumble.
But UConn's defense held Temple to just 298 total yards on 62 plays, including a key stop on 3rd down in overtime that forced the Owls to settle for a field goal.
Temple led most of the game, with Jake Brownell kicking field goals in the first and second quarter to lead 6-0. They maintained that edge until the fourth quarter, when UConn kicker Tony Ciaravino, who missed three field goals, knocked in a pair to tie the game.
