Partisanship shouldn't weigh above convictions

In recent months, an issue was brought to the forefront by conservatives that made me rethink my partisanship as a Democrat. At issue is Obama's opposition to Illinois legislation in 2001, 2002 and 2003 that would have defined any aborted fetus that showed signs of life as a "born-alive infant" entitled to legal protection, even if doctors believe it could not survive. Obama's only defense is that he voted against the legislations because he felt they were backdoor attacks on a woman's legal right to an abortion. So that's what this world has come to. Some liberals are so passionate about not encroaching on a woman's right to choose that even if it means letting a born-alive infant die, at least that decision lies with the mother. Everyone seems to be tired of debating about abortion, but as long as over 3,000 abortions are performed daily in America, the debate can't stop.
Society has been so brainwashed by liberalism that now everything is to be challenged and overturned. Anything that stems from faith-based beliefs needs to be examined in order to uphold the separation between church and state. That mentality is beyond dangerous; it is inhumane and cries out for divine punishment. While there are obviously cases of rape and incest where abortion is almost understandable, those cases account for a very small percentage of abortions; the main reason is due to unwanted pregnancy.
Scientists have said life begins at conception and in doing so they have only echoed the words of the Bible, "I knew thee even before I made thee and formed thee in the womb." Yet somehow, Americans deserve the right to play God and decide someone's fate? Oh, the blasphemy.
There are those who disagree with abortions, but think women should still have the right, because of free will. When did free will equal a license to kill without punishment? If that is the argument, then what is the point of having any laws?
Others are pro-life, but don't think the issue of abortion should trump other issues in this year's election. But on the contrary, what could possibly be more important than life? They are correct in deciding that this shouldn't be a big deal since it should be a no-brainer to end abortions. However, it obviously is not.

Genocide? I don't think so. That 'life' is attached to and supported by the woman until it is born. Meaning if the fetus is 'born' too soon, the fetus dies. (Continued…)

I understand the passion that you have for human life and I'm not trying to demean what you say. But something you should remember is that not everyone in this country is a Christian. (Continued…)

You could outlaw abortion, but what about rape and incest? It is such a complex issue. The author makes it sound like there are no restrictions to getting an abortion. (Continued…)

Most people in the US are pro-choice and the courts already decided that one, so give it a rest already. You may want to look up the definition of genocide. (Continued…)

GENOCIDE DEFINED
We call this endeavor the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) because Webster's New World Encyclopedia, Prentice Hall General Reference, 1992, defines "genocide" as "The deliberate and systematic destruction of a national, racial, religious, political, cultural, ethnic, or other group defined by the exterminators as undesirable.
