The women spent their weekend playing against Army, Bryant, Fairfield, Rhode Island, UMBC, Seton Hall and Quinnipiac at the Quinnipiac Invitational.
The results were all positive for UConn with Allison Campitiello and BreAnn Cheung beating out URI's Tristany Leikem and Kristen Leikem 9-7 to take the doubles 'A' flight title.
Other notable performances of the weekend were Katie Moritz and Alexa Gregory who made it to the semifinals of the doubles 'B' flight.
Junior Kelly LoRusso made it to the semifinals of the singles 'A' flight by defeating Pauline Rys of Fairfield 6-3, 6-3 twice in the quarterfinals. LoRusso lost the semifinal match to eventual champion Ana Mungo of UMBC 6-1, 6-3.
The women will participate in the Army invitational this weekend and then play their first match of the season on Oct. 1 against the University of Massachusetts at home.
The fall season will continue today for the men's team, not an invitational this time, but in an away match against in state rivals, Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart has played in only two matches this season but with three new talented players this year, they have managed to secure wins in both matches. The last match they played was a 7-0 shut out.
The last time the Huskies played Sacred Heart was the spring 2006 season. The Huskies won the match easily 6-1. The only remaining players on this team that have gone up against Sacred Heart are seniors Ben Schueler and Joey Michaels, both of whom won their singles matches when playing the Pioneers.
Like the women, the men also played well this weekend to follow their two 7-0 shut out victories last week.
The men made the trek to and from Providence Friday thru Sunday last weekend to take part in the Brown Tennis Invitational. They made their early morning wake up calls and long bus rides well worth it.
Teammates Tom Cook and Ricardo Cardona were matched up to play together in doubles over the weekend. The pair easily defeated Nicholai Hill and West Matt Shepard-Lupo of Bryant 8-3 in the quarterfinals and went on to beat out Jamie Watson and Gregory Maxson 8-6 to take them to the final round of the third flight doubles competition.
Things were heavily in UConn's favor for this match because Cook and Cardona were to take on teammates Matthew Burns and Nic Visinski, both freshmen. Cook and Cardona ended up on top with an 8-3 score to take the title.
Other notable performances were Michaels and freshman Dave Adams who competed in the second flight and made it to the quarterfinals before being defeated 8-1 by Villanova's David Shaheen and Alex Hanno.
