I have to give the McCain campaign credit. They're very clever.

On Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate John McCain stated he would not attend today's scheduled presidential debate unless the economic crisis was solved. In saying this, he probably convinced a lot of Americans that he cared more about the economy than his campaign.

However, some believe that McCain is suspending the debate as a campaign tactic. If Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama attends the debate while McCain is in Washington working, it displays Obama in a bad light. Yet, if it is a tactic, it could have a negative effect McCain. McCain's attendance at the debate will solidify his reputation as a flip-flopper. Also, some believe that McCain doesn't want to face Obama, as the campaign wants to stall the vice presidential debates in order to protect oandprepare Sarah Palin.

Whether McCain is serious about solving the economic crisis or is trying to pull a publicity stunt, the debate should go on.

The McCain campaign hopes to show that he cares the most about the economy and no one disagrees that the economic crisis is a huge problem that needs to be solved as soon as possible. McCain and Obama issued a joint statement acknowledging the severity of the crisis and calling Bush's plan "flawed," the Associated Press reported. President Bush invited both candidates and other congressional leaders to a White House meeting Thursday afternoon to work on a rescue plan, and both Obama and McCain attended.

The three presidential debates were carefully scheduled around Monday night football, Jewish holidays and other major religious occasions, Salon.com reported. Election Day is approaching and Americans are waiting to hear from their presidential candidates. Friday night is barely soon enough. The time to reschedule and relocate will be too long. Instead, the debate should be held to tell people about the issues and what the candidates are doing about them.
