UConn traveled to historic Franklin Park in Boston for the New England Championships. They finished a disappointing 25th in the 45-team field.
"We did not run as well as we wanted," said assistant coach Clive Terrelonge.
Terrelonge expected the Huskies to finish in the top 10. However, freshman Courtney Dinnan - who has been UConn's best this season - did not finish the race due to injury problems. According to Terrelonge, the loss of Dinnan hurt the Huskies and their chance of competing for a top spot.
"When you lose your top runner it's hard. Courtney is our top finishers every race, and is usually in the top 20 overall in races," Terelonge said. "We did the best we could without her, but it is definitely hard to finish in the top without your best runner."
Senior Kaitlin Vaughan (19:25) finished first for the Huskies, and 95th overall out of 301 runners. Sara Leslie (19:39) finished second for UConn, 119th overall. Caitlin Cannon, Heather Wilson, Leah Andrianos, and Keelan King rounded out UConn's finishers in the 5,000-meter course.
