A swimsuit calendar featuring students from colleges across the country, including a UConn sophomore, is on sale now to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The calendar was put out by Campus Girls USA, a new swimsuit calendar company. All profits will benefit the foundation.

It is rare for all profits of a project to go directly to charity, but that is what Trevor Debth, the president and creative director of Campus Girls USA, wanted.

"I've always felt very strongly about giving back in some way with whatever you're doing in life, which is what led to incorporating a charity as one of the focal points of Campus Girls USA," Debth said.

Debth chose to donate the money to breast cancer research because of the dramatic effect it has on so many women. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation was chosen as the specific organization to donate to "because of the high percentage of every dollar that goes directly back to research," according to Debth.

Debth's aim is to raise over $120,000 this year with profits from the calendar sale. Because this is only the second year of production and only the first year on a national level, Debth hopes that the amount of money raised will increase in future years.

There are Campus Girls USA calendars made for each school conference. This includes the Big East, Big 12, Big 10, Pac-10, ACC and SEC. Each calendar has 16 months (September 2008 - December 2009) and includes a two-sided poster of the 2008 football schedule and the March 2009 basketball tournament bracket.

Each calendar costs $15 and can be purchased at CampusGirlsUSA.com.

Meredith Parker, a 5th-semester history major and Daily Campus receptionist, was the representative model for UConn in this year's calendar. She was chosen as a finalist after a friend submitted pictures of her. An online public vote then won her the spot as the model for UConn.

Parker was sent to the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands this summer for the photo shoot. Other models shot in Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas. Parker said that the experience was amazing, and is now working to sell as many calendars as possible in order to reach the goal of $120,000.

Having a good time was important to the message Debth was trying to send.

"It was important to show the girls working on the project that raising money can be fun and rewarding at the same time," he said.

Parker, along with the other photographed women, is now working to each sell a minimum of 300 calendars.

"We're trying to sell as many as physically possible, because the more we sell, the more money we can donate," Parker said.

I have heard horror stories from most of the girls who have participated in these calendars of how the photographer tried to sleep with the girls once they are on the islands, peer pressured everyone into drinking alcoholic beverages, and then reported every single girl who had trouble selling all her calendars to collection agencies and refused to give any commission for all their hard work.
