As a staunch supporter of presidential candidate Barack Obama, Williams believes that the support Connecticut needs will come from our leadership in Washington. With Obama's plans for a stimulus package, the state will have a much easier time dealing with the budget crisis.
College students everywhere are terrified of what the future will bring for their tuition and careers. As for tuition, Williams plans to strive for continued support of those who need it most, in this case, struggling college students. Williams believes that it is very important to invest in higher education because students are the future of this economy, in addition to the numerous jobs these public institutions provide.
Williams says several fields are in desperate need of expertise healthcare, science, math and teaching. While a student should not change their major to supply these vocations for the state, it is still an option they can look into while scouring the job market.
Energy resources are another issue that Connecticut needs to focus on. Williams says that Connecticut has about the same resources for solar power as Germany, where 14 percent of its power is provided by solar panels. Although many candidates are pushing for nuclear power, Williams does not believe that it is a practical option for the next few years because of how difficult it would be to cite the property.
Williams plans to convert Connecticut's many town governments to regional models, which would reduce spending for each town's individual town resources. It will also provide more property taxes to put toward schools and transportation.
Don Williams is the candidate who will tackle the budget problems Connecticut is facing with a level head and practical methods. He will help those who need it the most. The Daily Campus endorses incumbent Don Williams for a ninth term in Connecticut's state senate.
