Everyone knows about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Historians have argued the accuracy of his historical existence but one thing is clear - his stories are legendary. The 2004 "King Arthur" with Clive Owen attempted to go the route of "Troy" and try a realistic approach to the character. Well the time has come to start thinking about an Arthur movie inspired by actual literary sources and including all the scandal, action and fantasy involved in those epic stories. This movie should display an already established Arthur with his Knights with some flashbacks from his rise to power. Throwing in the Lancelot-Guinevere betrayal would make for great drama as well. Perhaps Terry Gilliam ("The Brothers Grimm") would be able to bring King Arthur's fantastical elements on screen as long as he is able to balance the seriousness as well.
King Arthur Pendragon:
Viggo Mortensen
He has played the path to King before in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and now he is ready to take on the actual role of King. His role as Aragorn shows his ability to take on action roles in a fantasy movie and still bring in a powerhouse performance despite all the special effects and other crazy things going on around him. His role in the recent "Eastern Promises" also shows his range as an actor and he will need it in this movie. Arthur is going to go through a range of emotions as the title character and Viggo is the best man to wield Excalibur.
Runner up: Clive Owen ("Elizabeth: The Golden Age")
Lancelot:
Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Arthur's chief knight and close friend also commits the ultimate act of betrayal. Jonathan Rhys Meyer's charismatic, yet conflicted roles in "Match Point" and "Bend it like Beckham" prove his ability to make the viewer like a character they maybe should not be liking. Lancelot eventually has an affair with Queen Guinevere after saving her from abduction. Meyers can perfectly portray the dynamic among all three characters and bring that conflict to the audience perfectly. Oh and it's likely the ladies would go crazy over this role as well.
