After 14 seasons as an assistant coach for UConn women's basketball, Tonya Cardoza will line up along a new bench - as the head coach for Temple.
Cardoza was part of the coaching staff for all five of UConn's national championships and helped lead them to a 465-41 record while she was with the team.
"Tonya will be a great head coach and the staff at Temple is going to love her," said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma.
As a player for Virginia from 1987-1991, Cardoza tallied the third-most steals in school history (375).
Cardoza makes her regular season coaching debut for the Owls tonight against Bowling Green.
Cardoza accepted the position July 1, and Auriemma filled her position with UConn alum Shea Ralph.
