Three weeks after former UConn offensive coordinator Rob Ambrose announced he'd accepted the head coaching job at Towson, the Huskies have found his replacement.
Coach Randy Edsall announced yesterday that Joe Moorhead, the former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Akron University, has been hired to fulfill the same duties for the Huskies.
"I'm very excited and humbled to be a part of the University of Connecticut football program," Moorhead said. "I'm thankful to coach Edsall to give me this opportunity and I think he has laid an excellent foundation for the University of Connecticut football program. I'm just glad to be a part of it."
Edsall said that the interviewing process was extensive, and after talking with a number of candidates, it was clear that "Moorhead wasn't one of the top, he was the top choice."
"Joe brings an outstanding background of coaching quarterbacks, having productivity in the offense that he runs," Edsall said. "His philosophy is a philosophy I wanted for our team going forward."
Moorhead, who primarily operated a no-huddle offense at Akron for the past five years, will continue to employ that system with the Huskies.
"I wouldn't have hired Joe if I didn't want to do that," Edsall said. "To be able to do some things to help ourselves offensively, to be able to dictate the tempo of the game - seeing what some of those offenses have done to us, I think he could fit in from a personnel standpoint and I think that can give us an advantage offensively."
Under Moorhead's instruction, Akron was just one of 17 FBS teams to be ranked in the top 50 in rushing offense (45th at 165.7 yards per game), rushing offense (46th at 231.5 yards per game), total offense (40th at 396.67) and scoring offense (36th at 30 points per game). The Zips were the most improved team in the nation in terms of total offense and the sixth most improved team in terms of scoring offense.

You probably ought to actually research for your stories in the future. It is the University of Akron, not Akron University.
I think I'll start to refer to UCONN as CONNU from now on. (Continued…)
