Peanut butter removed from dining halls
DC Staff Reports
Issue date: 1/23/09 Section: News
Following an FDA warning about some peanut butters becoming infected with salmonella, the UConn dining hall will no longer serve the spread or anything made using it.
Director of Dining Services Dennis Pierce announced the decision in an e-mail sent to students on Thursday morning. According to the e-mail, Pierce has not set any expectation for when peanut butter would be allowed back in.
The e-mail also says that UConn dining halls do not use any of the peanut butters on the FDA's warning list of infected product, but that the department is being "proactive" in trying to prevent any outbreaks.
