Despite the current economic crisis, many students have planned spring break getaways at various destinations. Whether it is to escape the cold weather or to get some rest and relaxation during a stressful semester, warmer climates seem to be the getaway of choice for UConn students this year.

Ashby Given, a 6th-semester psychology major, is going on a cruise to the Bahamas with a large group of friends.

"I'm going with all of my friends. I can't wait to get out of the cold and windy weather and relax in the sun," Given said. "Two of my best friends are graduating in May, so this trip will also be nostalgic for us."

Harrison Smalbach, a 4th-semester exploratory major, is headed to Acapulco for the break.

"I'm pumped to go someplace warm for a while," Smalbach said. "I'm going with a bunch of friends so it should be a fun time."

Although it is a little late to book your fantasy destination for this year, you can always start planning for spring 2010. There are many companies that offer package deals for great prices. Companies such as StudentCity and Paradise Parties offer deals specifically aimed at students.

"We had our trip booked with a travel agency, but found a better deal with StudentCity," said Sara Nader, a 6th-semester marketing major. "My friends and I are going to Cancun for the break, we are all really excited about it."

Though it seems most students are traveling outside of the country to get some fun in the sun, there are some people who have chosen to stay within United States borders. Tom Powers, a 6th-semester business management major, is going to Tallahassee and Panama City, Fla., with his friends this break.

"This year's break is going to be great. I can't wait to hang out at the beach and go golfing for a week," said Powers

Although there are several different locations of choice for students this break, the days at the beach and lack of frigid cold temperatures are some things that most UConn spring breakers will have in common this year. And for those of you who are planning to stay home for this year's break, you can always live vicariously through the hundreds of albums that will be posted on March 15th.
