Game of the Week: NJIT 61, Bryant 51 (Wednesday) - The Highlanders' win over Bryant marked the first time that New Jersey Institute of Technology had won a game since Feb. 19, 2007, a span of 51 games, most ever for a team playing a Division I schedule.
The streak, however, isn't an official NCAA Division I record because the Highlanders, who joined Division I for the 2006-07 season, don't become a full member of Division I until next season.
Key Performance: Andrew Bynum scores 42 (Wednesday) - Bynum became the first Laker not named Kobe Bryant to score more than 40 points in a game since Shaquille O'Neal scored 48 against the Celtics on March 21, 2003.
Bynum shot 17-24 from the field and grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked 4 shots in the victory.
Big Letdown: Duke 85, Maryland 44 (Saturday) - Maryland was supposed to at least play competitively with rival Duke. Instead, the Terrapins were handed their worst loss under coach Gary Williams Saturday. The 41-point margin of defeat was the fourth-largest in school history. Duke led by as many as 44 in the game.
Wish We Were There: Top seed Jelena Jankovic upset in fourth round of Australian Open - In the biggest upset of the tournament so far, France's Marion Bartoli, a No. 16 seed, ousted Jankovic, the No. 1-ranked women's player, in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) yesterday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Number of the Week: 737 - The number of career wins for Kay Yow, the Hall of Famer who passed away Saturday after a decades-long battle with breast cancer.
Yow died Saturday at age 66 after a decades-long battle with breast cancer. Her 737 victories ranks sixth all time among coaches in women's college basketball.
