Game of the Week: Los Angeles Lakers 110, Boston Celtics 109 OT (Thursday) - In Los Angeles' first visit to the TD Banknorth Garden since the Celtics won the NBA Finals last year, Kobe Bryant & Co. exacted a little revenge by edging Boston in overtime, snapping the Celtics' 12-game win streak. Ray Allen had a final-second desperation 3-pointer blocked by Pau Gasol to seal the win for Los Angeles.
Key Performance: Kobe drops record-setting 61 points on Knicks in Madison Square Garden (Monday) - In arguably basketball's most famous arena, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant torched the Knicks for 61 points by shooting 19-for-31 from the field and a perfect 20-for-20 from the free throw line. The total set a new scoring record in Madison Square Garden, beating out former Knick Bernard King's 60-point performance on Christmas Day in 1984.
Big Letdown: Alex Rodriguez linked to steroids in 2003 MVP season (Saturday) - In baseball's biggest steroids-related scandal since Roger Clemens, SI reported Saturday that Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two banned substances in the 2003 season. That was the same year he won the Most Valuable Player award, his first, with the Texas Rangers. The blow, as bad as it is for A-Rod's reputation, leaves many baseball fans wondering who can be trusted to be clean anymore.
Wish We Were There: Littlejohn Coliseum, Clemson, S.C. (Wednesday) - For the first time since 1997, Clemson beat Duke at home and didn't hold back one bit doing so, clobbering the Blue Devils 74-47. It was the Tigers' biggest blowout of Duke since 1975, when they won 100-66.
Number of the Week: 113 - The combined number of points from Kobe Bryant (61) and LeBron James (52) scored against the Knicks at MSG this week.
