With Valentine's Day approaching, most have visions of candies, flowers and red, lacy cards floating before their love-struck eyes. But face it UConn, the romantic movies and chocolates are getting a little cliché. This year, Cupid and The Daily Campus are thinking outside the heart-shaped box. Surprise your Valentine with one of these unconventional, hilarious gifts. Disclaimer to the men of UConn: you might want to pair some of these gifts with an actual Valentine's gift as well...

1. The Edible Candy G-String

Skip over the chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne and head straight for the edible candy thong. Remember those Sweet-Tart necklaces you wore as a kid? This is that necklace all grown up, and feeling frisky. And before you make any judgements, keep in mind there are 330 flavored pieces and it's only 60 calories.

"I like its low-calorie count but the fact that it gets sticky can really make or break my evening," said Jesse Grab, a 6th-semester journalism major.

2. The Voodoo Doll Candle

For those with friends who are a little disenchanted with significant others (or their ex-significant others), this gift provides a safe revenge outlet. If your best friend is spending this day crying his or her eyes out, ripping up old photos, or setting momentos aflame, wrap up this voodoo doll to make his or her Valentine's Day special.

3. Bittersweets

Those old candies that said things like "I LUV U" and "UR 2CUTE" are so boring and outdated. Did anyone ever actually eat those? Mix things up a little and give your best friend or significant other a heart-shaped container of Bittersweets: candies with not-so-sugary sentiments printed across them. These little candies proclaim profound feelings such as, "DO MY DISHES," "BOOTY INFLATIN'," "AGING POORLY" and "I LOVE ME 2."

4. Personalized M&Ms

M&M customization is now available at www.mymms.com. Nicole Myers, a 6th-semester economics major, said, "I would want someone to write on my M&Ms something simple and classic like "Be Mine", because I think that would be really sweet." Or if you're a little lonely this Valentine's Day, no one would judge you for ordering your own M&Ms with sentiments like "You're looking skinny today", "I blame that one on the beer goggles", or "Hot for Hasheem."

5. The Oversized Rose

The classic Valentine's Day bouquet of roses has just been upgraded. Why settle for the everyday rose when you can order them anywhere from three to six feet tall? They come complete with a black or clear vase, a seven-day freshness guarantee, and an outrageously long stem. So if you're looking to make a statement this Feb. 14th, check out TheUltimateRose.com for the daddy of all Valentine's Day bouquets. Just measure the height of your honey's doorway before placing an order.
