A surprisingly well-produced, written and executed CD for a local band, UConn band Sleep Well's self-titled first EP is simply awesome. Composed of Adam Gooch, an 8th-semester management information systems major and vocalist, Jake Cohen, a 5th-semester sports management major and guitarist, Erik Wright, a 5th-semester communication major and keyboardist, Sam Cohen, a 1st-semester philosophy major and bassist and Edward Kozyra, a 5th-semester finance major and drummer, the band has an alternative sound similar to that of Brand New and MewithoutYou.

Featuring five songs, the CD opens with "Lions to Sheep," an up-tempo song with various sound and tempo segments that successfully manage to blend into one another. As intense as the ripping guitar solos in the background, the lyrics include "The nights now they're awake/ Take them to escape/ They don't want their blood/ Just a ghost now to remain/ The rivers ran unclean with something went unseen/ It ate apart the insides like a lion to a sheep."

The second track off of this album, "Stop Coughing," was a personal favorite, and perhaps the most similar to Brand New. Beginning with a slower pace and Gooch's synth-laced vocals, the song builds upon itself into layered vocals, a little screaming and guitar parts that force the listener to head bang whether they want to or not.

It is apparent that members of this band know how to effectively use their musical abilities and talents, but perhaps most notable is Gooch's voice. With a strong sound and fair range, it's nice to hear a singer in this genre who doesn't sound 14-years-old and congested.

Overall, this is a great album that is definitely worth checking out, and perhaps the only overriding issue is that there are so few songs. For lyrics or to listen to Sleep Well, check out their MySpace at myspace.com/sleepwellband.
