UConn fans came to Sunday's game wearing pink in order to raise breast cancer awareness, in conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's 'Pink Zone' initiative.

On Sunday, the No. 1 women's basketball team took part in a time to remember Kay Yow and to help raise money for breast cancer research for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

It was about more than just the game. It was about trying to find a cure and donating to charity.

That theme also translated on the court. In fact, the giving of free throws was abundant, as the Panthers put the Huskies on the charity stripe 31 times.

UConn made Pittsburgh pay, knocking down 27 of those shots.

For Kalana Greene, the game was also about redemption. In fact, she said she was making up for her performance against St. John's on Wednesday because "I know I let my team down."

"I just had a night where I didn't contribute at all defensively or offensively," she said. "I just wanted to come out tonight and get it started on defense, do the little things and I knew it would turn into big things. I just wanted to defend and rebound the entire game."

In a bind with Tiffany Hayes sitting on the bench for most of the game, the Huskies needed Greene to step up.

That is exactly what she did, recording a double-double on Sunday with 11 rebounds and points, as well as two steals and a block.

"I think it just deflates the other team," said Maya Moore. "You feel like, 'We stopped Renee [Montgomery], we stopped Maya, Tina [Charles] didn't score,' and then Kalana hits an and-one or gets a monster offensive rebound.

"You know, what do you do with that? She makes our team that much more of a threat."

Freshman Mistake

Hayes, starting in her third game of the season, played in just 5:51 of the first half on Sunday after three quick fouls. Kaili McLaren, Lorin Dixon and Meghan Gardler split time coming off the bench to replace the void left on the court.

After halftime, Hayes once again came out making a statement, hitting a 3 in the middle of UConn's 15-2 run early in the second half. Yet, five minutes later, she picked up her fourth foul of the game.
