Game of the Week: UConn 63, Syracuse 49 (Wednesday) - The Huskies rolled to their 12th-straight victory (a streak that now stands at 13) when they dispatched the rival Orange in relatively easy fashion. Syracuse managed just eight second-half field goals and shot a mere 31.7 percent from the field against an imposing and physical UConn defense. The only downside - and it was a big one - was junior guard Jerome Dyson's knee injury, which that will likely force him to miss the rest of the season.
Performance of the Week: Hasheem Thabeet (Saturday) - Thabeet will likely be the Big East's unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, but the junior center is making a late push for the conference's Player of the Year honors in recent outings. Thabeet nearly posted his second triple-double in a four-game span, exploding for 25 points, 20 rebounds, and nine blocks in a tighter-than-expected match-up with the Pirates.
Big Letdown: men's ice hockey - Five times in 2009, the Huskies have played a two-game weekend series with an opponent, and five times they've been on the wrong end of a sweep. Mercyhurst posted wins of 6-3 and 7-4, but UConn cut early deficits in both games down to more manageable ones only to falter late each time. Junior forward Chris Ochoa scored four consecutive goals for the Huskies, providing a glimmer of greatness in an otherwise-gloomy weekend.
Wish We Were There: men's track captures seven titles - The Huskies' performance at the Lafayette-Rider Invitational was its best overall outing of the season and it comes at an opportune time - with the Big East Championships just a weekend away. The Huskies won four titles on the track and three in the field.
Number of the Week: 5 - Including this season, the number of times a Geno Auriemma has coached the UConn women to a 25-0 start.
