Hate it or love it, 50's coming.
You've seen him in the club, the candy shop and laughing all the way to the bank, but come April 3, the only place Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson will be seen is right here in Storrs.
According to SUBOG Concert Chair Amanda Campbell, the G-Unit frontman will headline SUBOG's annual spring concert, usually held on Spring Weekend but moved to April 3 this year, with a soon to be determined opening act.
"Although we have held the concert on Spring Weekend every year, we are not required to hold it at that time," said Campbell, an 8th-semester allied health sciences major. "Some people have suggested that the spring concert may contribute to some of the issues we have with Spring Weekend, so we as SUBOG decided to try holding the concert on a different date. We also think that this will increase the resources we have to keep students safe on Spring Weekend.
In addition, we want to be able to have the most students possible attend the concert, and we think this might be a way to get better attendance. We as SUBOG cater to the students first."
Tickets will be distributed via lottery system as in past years. Starting on March 2 and running through March 4, a table will be set up on Union Street in the Student Union at times yet to be determined. Students must present their student IDs in order to receive a lottery number.
Numbers will be randomly assigned in 50-number increments to a time that students can buy tickets. Students must present the lottery ticket in order to purchase tickets, and there will be a four-ticket limit per student with ID and lottery number.
Ticket prices for students will be $10 for seats and $20 for floor. Tickets for guests will be $30 for seats and $40 for floor. Tickets will go on sale on March 19 and 20. Guest tickets must be purchased in company with student tickets (you cannot buy more guest tickets than student tickets), and only UConn students will be able to purchase tickets.
As to why the spring concert act will be rap for a second year in a row, Campbell said, "It is because this was the best act available and the best fit for our spring concert."
Concerns with cost and availability factor into the decision the members of SUBOG must make and Campbell felt that 50 Cent was the best fit.
She added, "50 Cent is also coming out with a new album in the near future, and is planning a major tour over the summer, and this show will be a good way to see him without the hefty ticket prices."
"Before I Self Destruct," 50 Cent's fourth studio album, is due out at the end of March.

How much taxpayer money is going towards this concert? I'm sure the petty $10 & $20 tickets are farrr from covering the cost of bringing him here. I would like to see some figures on this venture. (Continued…)

No tax-payer money is going towards it. Student fee money is going towards it, simple as that.

At least the realized that no one wants to miss x-lot for a concert and moved the date. This is a way better idea. This way when there are good acts everyone can go to the concert and still have 3 days of spring weekend. (Continued…)

Kyle,
Don't like it? Get involved. Join the SUBOG concert Committee. So simple. It's easy for everyone for to complain about what to campus when you're not the one researching, negotiating, and booking acts. (Continued…)

Guys if any of you actually knew A manda you would know that 50 cent is pretty far down her list on persona enjoyment. she is much more of a scremo kind of girl, so fact checking might be appropriate when making personal attacks. (Continued…)
