Avoid the winter sniffles with these health tips

Over the past few weeks, it seems like the entire campus has been sick.
By this point, I'm sure you have a head cold, and if you don't, you probably have the flu. And if you've been lucky enough to dodge those two, you most likely have an obnoxious cough that is at its worst when you laugh.
Sadly, only time, rest and in some cases, medicine, can rid you of these bothersome illnesses. However, nutrition is key in preventing similar illnesses from striking again. Let's look at some diet and lifestyle adjustments that can be made to keep those yucky germs away:
Drink a lot of juice
Every night, instead of polishing off a 12-pack of Bud Light by yourself, try substituting 12 glasses of orange juice and vodka. Not only will you get much, much drunker (and be able to sleep better), but you'll also get a good dose of Vitamin C, which has been shown to strengthen the immune system.
One downside, however: with a lot of juice comes a lot of sugar, which means a lot of calories. Drinking large quantities of juice (3-4 glasses per day) just means you'd have to cut the amount of other carbohydrates, such as pasta or bread. If you're still trying to lose those love handles before spring break, consider making a well-balanced meal of chicken, juice and vegetables a staple in your diet. You'll not only look better, but you'll also avoid sickness.
Eat your greens
"Eat your greens" is probably the No. 3 most frequently uttered phrase by parents all over the world. (No. 2 is "Clean your room" and No. 1 is "I wish you were never born.")
While your parents probably didn't know why it was a good idea to eat vegetables, they were right-green veggies are important in maintaining a strong immune system. Broccoli, for example, contains key phytochemicals such as Brassin, Indoles and Glucosinolates that are key in resisting toxins and disease.
Exercise...
Perhaps Elle Woods-the "Legally Blonde" lead played by Reese Witherspoon-put it best when she said, "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands."
