Game of the Week: L.A. Lakers 115, New Orleans Hornets 111 OT (Friday) - The Hornets rallied hard in the fourth quarter and nearly won the game in regulation, before a Derek Fisher 3-pointer sent things into overtime tied up at 98-98. Prior to the game, the Hornets had been the only team in the NBA to not have any games go into overtime. Lakers star Kobe Bryant had a game-high 39 points - 11 of which came in the extra period.
Key Performance: Greivis Vasquez, Maryland (Saturday) - Vasquez almost single-handedly carried the Terrapins to their 88-85 overtime home victory over No. 3 North Carolina with 35 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Eight of Vasquez's points came in overtime. The junior guard was the first Maryland player in 22 years to record a triple-double.
Big Letdown: NBA trade deadline (Thursday) - Sure there was talk of big names like Amare Stoudemire, Shaquille O'Neal, Vince Carter and others being shipped out this past Thursday at the trade deadline, but, with all due respect to Rafer Alston and Brad Miller, no blockbuster deals went down when all was said and done.
Wish We Were There: Mariners' spring training complex, Peoria, Ariz. (Saturday) - After 10 seasons away, future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr.'s baseball career came full circle Saturday. That's when Griffey officially announced his return to the Seattle Mariners, the team where he began his career as a No. 1 draft choice and spent his most productive seasons at.
Number of the Week: 71 - The total number of points scored by both teams in Penn State's 38-33 upset of No. 16 Illinois this past Wednesday. It was the lowest scoring total in a Division I game since 2005, when Monmouth beat Princeton, 44-21. Penn State shot just 28.3 percent in the game.
