While the extraordinary films that have graced the silver screen should be the best attention grabbers of the major award ceremonies this award season, often the acting, producers and directors nominated go by the wayside when it comes to the dazzling designer dresses that come waltzing down the red carpet. Throughout the 2009 awards season, five big award ceremonies set the trends that graced the red carpet, from highly constructed asymmetrical gowns to light and airy ones. With the film award season all settled with the Academy Awards on Sunday night, the best of best of the award season can finally be settled.
Critics' Choice Awards
This award ceremony set the precedent for the 2009 award season, not only in the dominance of the nominated films but also in the red carpet fashion.
Origami, architectural and sculptural style dresses, such as Anne Hathaway's black and white Gianfranco Ferre dress, became all the rage. Although, the dresses reflected a fun, laid back atmosphere for the awards. Kate Beckinsale's deep burgundy Jay Mendel piece perfectly combined the alluring mermaid silhouette with the ruffled architectural trend and complemented with a sleek hairstyle and dazzling chandelier earrings.
Golden Globes
Though the Golden Globes did not reach its full potential last year due to the Writers' Strike, the red carpet this year did more than enough to make up for last year's absence. While big name nominees like Kate Winslet and Anne Hathaway were stunning in their dresses, the designer of the night proved to be Oscar de la Renta, who dressed several attendees, the best of which proved to be none other than "Doubt" nominee Amy Adams. Her shimmering black strapless gown flowed down with ease and made this nominee shine in black against the red carpet.
Screen Actors Guild Awards
The Screen Actors Guild Awards' red carpet was filled with actors from both film and television alike. But it wasn't a nominee that dazzled the red carpet; it was attendee Evan Rachel Wood from "The Wrestler" fame. Her teal off-the-shoulder Monique Lhuiller number not only complemented her skin tone and stunning copper hair color, but also her antique jewelry, including her eagle pin brooch on the shoulder of her gown.

Am surprised you did not mention Kate Winslett and her gown, hair style, etc.
She looked magnificent, the best of the bunch.
