Symptoms of the dreaded fantasy basketball flu

Last semester, I wrote about the dreaded illness that was spreading through sports fans like wildfire. I'm talking about the Fantasy Football Flu, or for those of you who remember, I'm talking about the FFF.

It's been a while since fantasy football has ended. I was ousted in the second round of the playoffs, despite being the No. 1 seed coming in and despite having the best team in the league - self-proclaimed, of course.

It certainly has been a while since I've had any symptoms of the FFF. After my early playoff exit, I had been keeping to my studies, leaving the random stats about DeAngelo Williams behind and even checking Facebook before fantasy sports.

But lately, I've been feeling a little ill and on Monday, my biggest fears came true. I've come down with the FBF - the Fantasy Basketball Flu.

When I woke up Monday morning, I was supposed to study for a British Literature exam I was going to take at noon. Instead, I went to the computer, went to my favorites and clicked on my fantasy basketball league.

I looked at the rankings and, after 16 hard weeks, found I had finally reclaimed the No. 1 seed in my league.

I sat there in my polar bear pajama pants, starring at the screen with the biggest "cheesing" smile I ever wore. I was No. 1.

But as I stared, I thought about how the past few weeks had played out for me.

I remembered the Hemingway reading that I skipped because I was up too late trying to find an adequate replacement for Al Jefferson.

I remembered spending countless hours searching the darkest depths of the Internet for the latest information on Monte Ellis' injury before I eventually declined my roommate's trade proposal.

I remembered spacing out for an entire 50 minute class thinking about what statistics my players needed to put up that night if I wanted to wake up tomorrow with the lead over my opponent.

I remembered that the FBF is even more deadly than the FFF.
