What does men's and women's track and field have to do to get recognized in The Daily Campus? The "What's Next" calendar on the second page of the sports section includes every sporting event on every team that is currently in season. Where is track and field?
On Feb. 23, an article was written by Chris Brodeur on "UConn's best performances of the last seven days." Where was track and field?
Is winning the Big East Championship on both the men's and women's side for the second year in a row not what someone would deem "best performances of the last seven days?"
Last weekend, there were lots of best performances. These best performances were minimally mentioned in the Daily Roundup in seven sentences. Seven sentences to capture conference title wins by two teams on campus. Two teams!
Excellence in sports is a tradition at UConn. Last weekend these two track programs rose to that challenge and furthered this tradition of distinction. Give the track and field teams the recognition they deserve.
At the very least, include them in "What's Next," so people around campus can support these two teams in the spring as they make a run for an outdoor track and field championship. The track team runs for the name on the front of their shirts; help support them by having their back in the paper.
