Originally, Lorenz pushed for an impeachment on the grounds that Ortiz had a bias against non-academic student clubs after comments he made at a Feb. 4 meeting. She argued this bias fell under the definition of discrimination, which is against the university policy he is obliged to follow. After Ortiz attempted to veto a $12,000 funding request from the paintball club, Lorenz filed for impeachment the morning before Ortiz's veto was overturned by the senate.
Ortiz, who has been considering running for USG president next year, maintains that his comments were meant to protest the light scrutiny some clubs like paintball receive while other groups - like those organizing charitable alternative breaks - were heavily examined. He also says that his paintball veto was an attempt to curb what he saw as frivolous spending in tough economic times.

Ha, looks like Lorenz realized that not a single student outside of USG was behind her on this motion and that everyone saw how she was just trying to fulfill a grudge she held. (Continued…)

Its a shame that Lorenz withdrew her impeachment. Ortiz violated not only USG rules, but possibly state laws as well. I would reference the recent cases of Boise State University and Wayne State University. (Continued…)

Dear 'Concerned Student',
Are you honestly suggesting that Ortiz violated state laws by saying excessive funding for the paintball club is unwarranted when other charitable clubs get heavily scrutinized?

Might I point out that Concerned Student is OBVIOUSLY Mary Lorenz pushing her own power-tripping warped agenda.
Impeach her, not someone trying to help us. (Continued…)

There is little doubt that if elections for USG were tomorrow Ortiz would likely win the president's spot (if desired), and Lorenz would probably be out as senator. (Continued…)
