I'm not going to South Padre for spring break. Nor am I traveling to Mexico to rendezvous with some kidnappers. However, rumor has it that Fairfield County's cool temperatures and overpriced gas stations are drawing record tourists this year - not.
It may be hard to believe, but not all students are traveling to a far-away place. If you are looking for a brief escape from reality during the upcoming spring break, then try making some spring break favorite drink specials right in the comfort of your own home. Here are a few low-calorie drink suggestions for your enjoyment, courtesy of Fitness magaziune.
Sangria Sparkler
Sangria, a popular drink from Spain, is a delicious way to enjoy wine with a fruity and bubbly twist. Try splitting a pitcher of this with some other friends who are home for the week. To truly get into the Mediterranean spirit, accompany this wine with a traditional Spanish dish like paella.
Makes: 12 servings
Prep: 10 minutes
Chill: 2 hours
1 bottle dry red wine
1 cup light orange juice
1/4 cup brandy or cognac
1/4 cup orange liqueur
2 medium oranges, sliced
2 cups club soda
2 tablespoons sugar
Orange peel curls and/or crushed ice
Take one large pitcher and combine orange juice, brandy, orange liquor, sugar, wine and orange slices. Chill this mixture for least 2 hours. Prior to serving, add the club soda and serve over crushed ice. For garnish, add orange peels or other type of fruits.
