Senior Year Experience's new electronic resource for graduating seniors, the Senior E-News, will be sent to seniors with stories and information pertaining to graduation and the transition into life after UConn.
The first edition was released in February and subsequent editions will be produced monthly, according to Daniel Doerr, assistant to the vice president for Student Affairs and director of Senior Transition and Engagement Program.
The goal of the letter is to inform students of important graduation dates and deadlines, provide information about upcoming events and to familiarize students with the Alumni Association and their opportunities after graduation, Doerr said.
The February edition included factual information about graduating on time, graduating from Greek Life and finding a job in a bad economy. On a lighter note, it suggested painting The Rock and gave the opinion of a recent UConn grad, according to the SYE Web site.
Doerr, who initially came up with the idea of Senior E-News, is working with Student Activites, Office of the Registrar, the Alumni Association, Off-Campus Student Services, the UConn Co-op, the UConn Foundation, Career Services, the Bursar's Office, the Financial Aid Office and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life in order to produce the newsletters.
"I think the newsletter is a good idea, I just doubt that too many people will read it. But it's good to give people the option" said Tom Yee, an 8th semester communications major.
Stephanie Hoffman, an 8th-semester sociology major has a different opinion on the matter.
"I wish they would have started this sooner," Hoffman said. "I couldn't fit an SYE into my schedule, but this information is really useful."
Since there has only been one edition of Senior E-News, it is hard for Doerr to judge how seniors will react to the newsletter.
"Hopefully waiting until seniors have had the change to interact with the E-News a few times will allow us to get richer feedback," Doerr said.
In the meantime, and questions or comments about Senior E-News can be sent to
