The past week was a tough one for the UConn women's lacrosse team. Coach Angela McMahon's squad came up just short in a road game against Marist, followed by a loss to No. 6 Syracuse in their Big East opener.
Tuesday's game against Marist was an even contest from the start, as Whitney Michele led a balanced attack with her second hat trick of the season. Three other players scored twice and the Huskies tied the game at 11 with 10:42 remaining, but were unable to find the net for the remainder of the game.
The defense held its own against the Red Foxes (3-1), but came up short when Cristin Begley scored on a free position shot with 3:44 to go, giving Marist the 12-11 victory.
In the team's first in-conference action of the season, they were unable to capitalize on a five-goal performance from freshman M.E. Lapham, losing to Syracuse, 13-8.
The Orange were led by the nation's active points leader, Katie Rowan, whose 10-point outburst against the Huskies made her the most points in Big East history.
